some 90210 trivia

September 8, 2009 · 5 Comments

During a (clearly) busy day at work on Friday, my friend Jess and I decided we needed to liven up the bulletin board in the hallway.  Keeping with the back to school theme of September we decided to see how much the stiffs at our office know about classic high school TV shows/movies.

It was my job to put together the trivia for Beverly Hills 90210.  After reaching out to my resident experts ( Hands, Telling It Like It Is and Mrs. Slubert ) we put together the following trivia questions (Note: for true fans they should be very easy):

What was the name of the West Beverly High newspaper?

Who was the vice principal at West Beverly?

Where did Brenda and Donna study abroad?

What TV show was Steve’s mom the star?

Where was Valerie Malone from?

Why did Andrea Zuckerman drop out of college?

What real-life high school was used as the filming location for West Beverly?

What fraternity did Steve join in college?

Who did Dylan McKay marry?

Where did the Walshes live before Beverly Hills?

 What is Jim Walsh’s occupation?

Why did Donna Martin almost not graduate high school?

What two characters wore the same dress to the spring dance?

 Whose parent’s married each other?

Where was Brandon the night Kelly was caught in the fire?

Which one of Donna boyfriends pushed her down the stairs?

Who married in the final episode?

What 90’s band sang for Donna at the Peach Pit?

Here is a hint for the last question:

when it’s football season..

September 3, 2009 · 1 Comment

…it’s also fantasy football season.

The 2009 inauguralfantasy football draft for Christine of Chrommie was held last night.   In my office we took over a conference room, stocked it with beer and pizza and began the7th (or so) annual FootBooz fantasy football draft.

We have a 14 person league, so by about the 4th round we are into slim pickings.  I tried to do the draft all by myself, with a little advise here and there to find out who were starters and who were not.

Here is the 2009 line-up for the Bordskins:

QB- Peyton Manning

QB- Jake Delhomme

WR- Terrell Owens

WR- Santana Moss

WR- Jerricho Cotchery

WR- Michael Jenkins

WR- Greg Camarillo (i think he was my auto-drafted final pick)

RB- Brian Westbrook

RB- Derrick Ward

RB- Fred Taylor

RB- Jerious Norwood

TE- Jeremy Shockey

K- Nate Kaeding

DEF- Philly (note: this was a mistake, I meant to get Pitt but they were already gone and I got all confused and picked the Eagles by accident. Sigh.)

bbq chicken pizza party!

August 1, 2009 · 2 Comments

A few weeks ago, instead of our usual turkey pepperoni and mushroom, I decided to try a different kind of homemade pizza.  Per Rommie, “this is the best one yet”.

Thanks to our favorite cocktail and table-scape Food Network chef, I stumbled on an easy BBQ chicken pizza recipe.

Here is the recipe with my “professinal modifications”:

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (if you saute the chicken)
  • 1/2 pound chicken tenders (I used raw but  you could  also use pre-cooked)
  • 2/3 cup barbecue sauce (Sweet Baby Rays was perfect!!)
  • Flour, for dusting surface
  • 1 (13.8-ounce) package pizza dough ( I used the Pillsbury kind like a crescent roll that is one large piece)
  • 3/4 cup shredded Gouda
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 3/4 cup shredded Parmesan
  • 1/2 medium red onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Sandra recommends you saute the chicken, however I poached it in about an inch and a half of water for about 10 minutes. Regardless of how you make it,  when chicken is cool enough to handle, dice chicken to yield a little over 1 cup. In a small bowl, toss chicken with 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce. Set aside.

On a floured surface, roll out dough and place on a greased sheet pan. Shape to fill the sheet pan, about a 15 by 10-inch rectangle. Spread remaining barbecue sauce evenly over pizza dough. Sprinkle Gouda, mozzarella, Parmesan, onions, and chicken over top. Bake for 20 minutes or until cheese bubbles. Sprinkle with chopped cilantro and cut into pieces.  Note:  I baked the pizza with the cilantro on top and it was perfect.  I <3 cilantro.

Here is a picture of the final product.  This recipe is a keeper!

Chrommie would like to give a big happy birthday shout-out to Alma (aka Mom and Mother in Law :) ).  Ronya, Rommie and I will be taking the Mislehs out to the new Chef Geoff’s for her birthday dinner tonight.  And don’t worry, Ronya will be sure to post a full review of the meal!

it all goes back to weird al

    July 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Inevitably every time Rommie and I are in the car together, we always hear a song spoofed by the legendary pop satirist, Weird Al Yankovic.  In fact, it’s gotten to the point where Rommie will ask me what the Weird Al lyrics are just about every time we hear a song.

Last night the song was Survior’s classic, “Eye of the Tiger” or, per Weird Al, the “Rye or the Kaiser”

Try the rye or the kaiser,
    They’re on special tonight.
If you want, you can have an appetizer
You might like our salami and the liver’s alright
And they’d really go well with the rye or the kaiser

Some other Weird Al favorites are: “Another one Rides the Bus”,  ”Amish Paradise”, and most importantly (also a favorite of Mr. Michael Toole):

    Why I love Family Feud

    July 23, 2009 · 3 Comments

Family Feud has been, and will always be, one of my favorite game shows.  The love for the game started in my younger years when I would spend hours with Laura playing Family Feud on the computer.  We would have a great time “Standing By” while my dad’s IBM PC with it’s expanded 256KB hard drive running MS-DOS scrambled to load the fast money round.

However last night was the coup de grâce for all Family Feud lovers.  The Campbell family was up against the Hawk family (which much to my chagrin didn’t have a Mike on their team)

The face-off question was “Name a Famous Betty?”  The Campbells won the face-off with Betty-Boop (which was the #1 answer).  They proceeded to name a the following famous Bettys:  Betty Ford (#3), Betty Grable (#4) and Bettie Davis (#5).  However, they were still missing #2.  The next answer given was: Annette Beatty (words cannot express John O’Hurley’s face when that answer was given) STRIKE 1.  The next answer was Betty Washington STRIKE 2.  Finally, the last answer from team Mensa was Betty Lewis.  Of course, says John O’Hurley, because Betty Lewis is Betty Washington’s neighbor.  STRIKE 3.

Meanwhile, Rommie and I are dying of laughter and anger that they could not think of BETTY WHITE (who was, by the way, the FIRST Betty I thought of!)

Time for the Hawk family to steal.  I am jumping up and down screaming Betty White at the TV.  Did they hear me?  Nope, they sure didn’t.  Because they thought the second most famous Betty was…… “Betty and Veronica from Archie comics”.  Fail.

I couldn’t find the YouTube clip from this episode, but here is one that is almost as good. Enjoy:
